RYO Audition Requirements for Flute
Scales and arpeggios
All scales and arpeggios are to be MEMORIZED. Scales listed are your starting note. Do not transpose to concert pitch. The GMEA pattern is acceptable.
Flute: Major Scales on Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D, (two octaves required -three octaves Moyse pattern preferred),
all scales with arpeggios;
Chromatic Scale Two octaves on Bb
Solo Piece (played without accompaniment)
Students should choose a solo piece that demonstrates their best ability. Please discuss this with your band director or your private teacher. Your GMEA Lyrical and/or Technical etude from last year would be a good choice.

Students will be asked to sight-read one or two examples at the RYO level.
AYO Audition Requirements for Flute

Flute: Major Scales on Ab and B major, B harmonic minor, 2 octaves required (three octave Moyse pattern is preferred), all with arpeggios; Chromatic Scale Three octaves on low C.
Solo Piece (played without accompaniment)
Students should choose a solo piece or etude that demonstrates their best ability. Please discuss this with your band director or your private teacher. Your GMEA Lyrical and/or Technical etude from last year would be a good choice.
