Esther Holliday is the winner of the 2010 Concerto Competition, performing the Elgar – Concerto in E minor for Cello, Adagio, Allegro.
Esther Holliday, winner of the 2010 AAYO Concerto Competition, is 16 years old and in the 10th grade. Living in Hinesville Georgia, she is being homeschooled along with her 3 siblings. Both of her parents and grandparents have been actively involved in music, and as a result she has grown up in a musical atmosphere. Her parents played a definite role in her life, supporting private lessons, daily practicing, recitals etc. Influenced by her grandfather at the age of 3 she started playing the violin. Later, at the age of five, she began studying the cello, and has studied with teachers all over the country. In Georgia, she has studied with Glen Fischbach, Douglas Graves, Cheung Chau, Annelisa Nelson, and is currently being coached by Maestro Neil Casey.
She has had the opportunity to play in the Georgia Southern Youth Symphony, Georgia Southern Orchestra, and her grandfather’s orchestra in Michigan. Every year she looks forward to participating in her grandfather’s music camp. Playing in her family’s quintet and church orchestra has also been a joy for her. Currently, Esther is the principal cellist in AAYO and has been honored to play as soloist with the orchestra.
