Brian Stuligross, 2014 Concerto Competition Winner

Brian Stuligross is the 2014 Concerto Competition winner, performing Édouard Lalo – Symphonie Espagnole, Op. 21, Allegro non troppo.

Violinist Brian Stuligross, 18, is a senior at Hilton Head Island High School. Currently a student of Lizhou Liu, he also studied extensively with Dorothy Mauney. Brian is concertmaster of the Hilton Head High School Orchestra, and has been a member of AAYO for two years. In 2013, he won Honorable Mention in the AAYO’s Concerto Competition, senior division. He has been selected for South Carolina All-State Orchestra and Region Orchestra for the past three years, serving as concertmaster at Region and assistant concertmaster at All-State this year. He attended the Wintergreen, VA Summer Music Festival in 2013, and will attend the Bowdoin International Music Festival in Maine this summer.

A diverse musician who enjoys many genres, Brian is also proficient on electric bass and guitar. He plays bass with the HHIHS Jazz Band and the band Endseeker (classic metal) and has done extensive pit work for numerous local theaters and schools on all 3 instruments. Brian is frequently featured as a soloist at services at First Presbyterian Church, HHI. He teaches violin to elementary students at the Boys and Girls Club of the Lowcountry as part of their after school program, and is a member of Out of the Blue choir at HHIHS. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, skateboarding, downhill skiing and fly fishing. Brian plans to continue studying music at college and hopes to major in violin performance.
